They are less expensive than regular PCs (fat clients). A
thin client runs about half the price of a regular PC. |
 |
They last forever. Well, almost...unlike PCs that
become outdated every 2-3 years, thin clients don't obsolesce because
all they do is access applications on your server or over the internet. |
 |
Thin clients are much smaller than PCs. All you need is
a monitor, keyboard and mouse. No more need for that bulky tower
or desktop computer box! |
 |
They don't break. The mean time between failures on a
thin client is 9 times greater than on a PC. This is largely due
to the fact that they have no moving parts whereas regular PCs are
completely dependent on numerous critical moving-part components. |
 |
They are easier to manage. Thin clients are much easier
to manage than regular PCs. Everything can be remotely configured,
changed or upgraded behind the scenes by your network/hardware vendor or
by a DVM Manager service representative. |
 |
Application software updates are unnecessary. Because
thin clients do not have any application software installed on them,
software updates never need to be installed on them. Thin clients
run their application on the server, so as long as the server is
updated, all of your thin clients are also updated. |
 |
They are faster than regular workstations. Thin clients
boot up and access the server in less than 30 seconds as opposed to
several minutes for most PCs. They also display data more rapidly
than PCs because the only data that needs to be transferred from the
server to the thin client is graphical display terminal data - no
database information goes back and forth because all the processing is
done on the server. |

They will increase your productivity. By eliminating
the continuous repair cycles and software/hardware upgrades, your
productivity will increase as you focus on practicing veterinary
medicine. |
